  • The open (user) password, so the file opens without asking.
  • Owner restrictions — no-print, no-copy, no-edit flags — from a file that opens freely but blocks those actions.
  • Encryption itself: the output is a plain, unencrypted PDF with the same pages and content.

The correct password, if the file asks for one when opened. This is not a password cracker: a wrong or missing password fails with a message. A PDF that opens without a password but carries owner restrictions can be unlocked with the password field left empty.

Decryption runs inside your browser using qpdf built for WebAssembly (about 1.3 MB, downloaded on first use and then cached). Neither the file nor the password leaves your device.

Only remove protection from documents you own or are permitted to change. The tool cannot check that, so the responsibility is yours.
