Choose a file to convert. It's processed locally — never uploaded. Tip: add several files to convert them all at once.
Result appears here after you select
{ } What is removed
- The six document properties: title, author, subject, keywords, creator and producer.
- The XMP metadata packet in the document catalog — a second copy of the same properties that many cleaners forget.
- The result summary lists exactly which properties were set and cleared, and whether an XMP packet was found.
{ } What is not removed
- Anything printed or drawn on the pages — names in headers, footers and signatures are content, not metadata.
- Metadata inside individual images (for example EXIF data in an embedded JPEG) or attached to annotations.
- Form field values, comments and bookmarks.
{ } How it is done
The file is opened without letting the PDF library stamp its own producer or modification date, the six fields are blanked, the XMP entry is deleted from the catalog, and the document is saved. Pages are not re-encoded, so the cleaned file looks identical and is about the same size.
{ } Verify the result
Open the cleaned file in PDF Metadata Viewer: every property should read null. If something you expected to disappear is still visible, it is on a page, and removing it means editing or redacting that page.
{ } How it works
Remove PDF Metadata works on the file you upload. Select Process ▸ and it runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded to a server — then shows the result in the Output panel.
Input
- PDF file — upload a file (.pdf); it is read locally in your browser
Output
A downloadable PDF file — use the Download button in the Output panel.
{ } Common uses
- Remove your name or your employer’s software from a file before sending it out.
- Clean a PDF exported from a template that carries someone else’s author name.
- Strip properties before publishing a document on the web.
{ } Limitations
- It does not touch the pages: text, images, and anything visible stay exactly as they were.
- It is not redaction — information written inside the page content remains readable.
- Per-object metadata attached to individual images or annotations is not scanned.
{ } FAQ
Is my data uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser — your files never leave your device.
Can I process more than one file at once?
Yes — add several files and they’re all processed and downloaded together as a ZIP.
Is this tool free?
Yes — it’s completely free and needs no sign-up.
Does this hide what the document says?
No. It removes the properties attached to the file, not the content of the pages. Text you can see or select is still there.
How do I check it worked?
Run the cleaned file through the PDF Metadata Viewer — the fields come back empty.
Does the file leave my device?
No. Like every tool here, it is processed in your browser.
